If you are the type that shudders at the mere mention of the word “camping”, look away now!

So, after a ton of requests begging us to run the European Camping Tour for 2019 we submitted and gave in but we’ve gone Big this time adding a few more days and some bloody awesome roads and scenery, including Macedonia!

What’s it all about?

The Grand European Tour 2019 (GET2019) Is an Escorted tour like no other. Riding almost 5,000 miles down to Italy and into Greece then back up through the Adriatic coast taking in some superb scenery, varying cultures and many seriously awesome roads

Camping, isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but for those of us that ride bikes and want a sense of adventure and freedom it’s the only way to go. Sleeping under the stars at the end of a riding day puts you into the heart of adventure and exploration touring. It’s how we used to do it before the tourism boom began back in the 70’s and 80’s. But fear not, there is some luxury on this tour as well, we will be staying in hotels from time to time to give you something softer to lie on, in fact, we’ve added 7 nights of hotels which are conveniently scheduled to coincide with rest days or longer days in the saddle, so you can have a nice long soak in the bath and trim your nails!

Where are we going?

The journey begins in Folkestone, catching the Eurotunnel to Calais, we head south to the Vosges Mountains for a night’s camping. Then we head across the Alps and over Grimsel Pass staying the night again in our tents before heading off to Pisa where we stay on a beautiful campsite 500 yards from the tower that is need of some serious foundation work!

After out visit to The Leaning Tower of Pisa we head to Rome for the night and then onto a spectacular town called Sorrento, just down the road from Pompei and Mount Vesuvius. We stay in Sorrento for two nights as its such a beautiful place and sits right on the end of the famous Amalfi Coast road.

After a day of resting, sipping limoncello (lemon liqueur) we head along the stunning Amalfi coast road and over to the east coast of Italy to Brindisi to catch an overnight ferry to Greece. On arriving in Greece we have a choice of some short off road sections or tarmac and head for our campsite on the west coast. The following day we head east towards Athens through some of Greece’ most stunning roads.

Without giving too much more away. The journey then takes us through Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia and so on. Through Austria and Germany and finally back to Calais after an epic 21 day journey.

All you need to bring is a small tent, sleeping bag, usual clothes and some basic spares. Most of the campsites will have a restaurant or one nearby, by it is advisable to bring a small stove and some food / drink, such as tea or coffee sachets and perhaps some ration pack style food packs.
