1

DAY 1 - Calais - Troyes

Meet and greet at the Euro Tunnel and head off to Troyes in France (our exact destination will be provided before the tour)

Riding on motorway until we reach Reims we will peel off and head for Troyes on the A roads, passing through villages and small towns.

Mileage: 257 miles
Riding time: 4.5 hours
Stops: every 80 – 100 miles

2

DAY 2 - Vosges Mountains France

Vosges Mountains
Vosges, the third most wooded département in France, boasts a stunning natural environment consisting of world-famous thermal springs, waterfalls, mountain lakes, the Vosges mountains, unspoiled flora, rivers and magnificent fir forests. Combine all these beautiful scenic elements and throw in some gorgeous twisty bendy curvy roads and voila, you have the ingredients for a fantastic time with great company, good weather and some of the best riding you will find for miles.

The roads are smooth  and there is plenty of them. Every section holds it’s own beautiful character
We rest for the evening in the heart of Vosges, where we will be staying for 2 nights, meaning you can ditch your luggage for more freedom.

Mileage: 172 miles
Riding time: 4.5 hours (No Motorway)
Stops: Several stops throughout the day

3

DAY 3 - Vosges Mountains

The Vosges Mountains for some is overwhelming, the scenery is stunning and the roads are endless twists and turns, with some hairpins thrown in for good measure. We ride the circuit of Vosges today ending back in the same hotel for the evening, where there is fine beer, good food and a swimming pool with Alpine views. What could be better than that?

Mileage: 126 miles
Riding time: 5 hours (No Motorway)
Stops: Photo stops, morning coffee break and lunch break etc

4

DAY 4 - Let's go to the Black Forest

Today we ride through the Grand Ballon, the highest point in the Vosges Mountains with alpine views. We then ride through Gletscherkessel Park, the roads and scenery hear is stunning and hardly a car in sight, finally descending to a little cafe with a Ducati Outside bolted on the wall!
Then we are heading into the Black Forest in Germany and will ride the B500, some of our customers have described this road as being as close as you can get to the perfect road in every way. Surface, turns, bends, curves, ascents and descents, beautiful landscapes, lakes and stunning villages. The road is predominantly buzzing with motorcyclists most of the year so it is a real thrill through and through. Miles and miles of pure riding bliss on ribbon like tarmac roads.

There will be an opportunity to see the Worlds Largest Cuckoo Clock tomorrow (we do our best to please!) and of course, sampling the Black Forest Gateau is a must, unless you don’t like cake then you can have some dust instead. We stay the night in Triberg in the heart of the Black Forest

Mileage: 154 miles approx
Riding time: 5 hours (No Motorway)
Stops: Frequent

5

DAY 5 - Black Forest to Bitche

We continue riding through the Black Forest, stopping at the Worlds Largest Cuckoo Clock (see, we know how to spoil you) on and off the B500 until we reach Baden Baden, then we hop over to one of our favourite hotels located in Bitche in the Nord Vosges National Park, with fine French and Italian cuisine, great beer, fabulous staff and great sunset!

Mileage: 120 miles
Riding time: 4 hours (No Motorway)
Stops: frequent

6

DAY 6 - Bitche - Verdun - Reims

Reims is our destination today and we head through the Lorraine Valley and pass through Verdun. For anyone who has an interest in World War 2, there is time for a brief stop to see the numerous memorials. Verdun is a small city in northeast France, on the banks of the Meuse river. It’s known as the site of the WWI Battle of Verdun. Verdun’s battlefields are marked by museums and memorials, such as the Douaumont Ossuary, with the remains of more than 100,000 soldiers. Northwest of the city is the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery. In the town, the huge Porte Chaussée gate was once part of the city’s medieval walls.

Mileage: 190 miles
Riding time: 5 hours (No Motorway)
Stops: frequent

7

DAY 7 - Reims to Calais

Our ride begins with a quick stop at the old Grand Prix Circuit in Reims, a very nostalgic experience seeing all the grandstands sitll in place. From here we head up to Calais on a mix of A roads and motorway. Finally reaching Calais Euro Tunnel where we catch our train back to the UK, arriving in the UK around 17.00hrs

IS THE TOUR SUITABLE FOR NEW RIDERS?

Whilst a new rider would be fine, please consider that there are some tight bends on this tour. If you are competent and can manage tight turns you will be fine

CAN I RIDE AT MY OWN PACE?

Yes, there are lots of opportunities where you can blast away the cobwebs

IS THIS A GUIDED OR ESCORTED TOUR?

It is an escorted tour, meaning that you have the freedom to follow the route independently or follow the tour guide and stay with him

WHAT ARE THE HOTELS LIKE?

All hotels are 3* or above and are clean and comfortable. Where a rider is sharing a room with another rider, some hotels may have rooms that are classed as “doubles”, it is a large king or queen size double bed frame with single mattresses and single bedding (this is very typical of German and Austrian hotels and is unavoidable)

I AM WORRIED I WONT KEEP UP WITH THE GROUP

That’s a common concern for most people wanting to go on a tour but you needn’t worry at all. If the group as a whole want to stay together we can use a drop-off system, it’s simple and basically works using a team effort. The leader will indicate to the rider behind to wait in a safe place at a junction, so all riders behind can see him/her (marker) then when he/she sees the last rider (tail end charlie) he/she will move off and rejoin the group at the back in front of the last rider. and so it goes on through the group in rotation. It works really well and allows everyone to ride at their own pace without getting lost. The alternative is to follow your sat nav, it will lead you along the route we created directly to the hotel

DO I NEED A SAT NAV

Yes, you must be able to find the hotels each day and navigate the route independently as this is an escorted tour not a guide tour, just in case you become detached from the group.

CAN I TAKE A PILLION?

Of course you can

IS THERE DISCOUNT FOR GROUP BOOKINGS?

We believe our prices are competitive as they are, so we may be able to offer a discount depending on the number in the group. Contact us to find out more

WILL I NEED A VIGNETTE?

No, the locations we will be visiting are Germany and France

I have heard about Crit’ Air pollution stickers for vehicles, do I need one?

No, these currently only apply to a handful of major cities in France, such as Lyon, Paris, Grenoble…

How much is fuel in France/Germany etc?

It is about the same as UK prices

What speeds do you ride on the motorways?

We stick to the legal limits, usually on the toll motorways this is 130kmph (80mph) and 115kmph (70mph on non toll motorways). We do not speed recklessly on Autobahns. And we respect local villages and towns by adhering to the speed limit. Besides this, France have become very strict on speeding offences this year, they have also spent a lot of money on speed cameras, so be careful

If I get caught speeding what happens?

If you are caught by a mobile patrol you will be fined on the spot and made to pay on average between £50 – 100. If your speed was excessive, your bike will be impounded and you could be arrested. All prosecutions issued in France are now transferred to the UK, so if you lose your license in France it applies in the UK. If you are flashed by a camera, expect to receive a fine in the post from France or a debt collection agency acting on behalf of the French Transportation. Guided Motorbike Tours Ltd are not responsible for riders receiving speeding offences. You are in control of your bike, not us.

Do I need to carry a hi-viz vest etc?

Yes, you do not need to carry a Breathalyzer anymore but it is recommended. You will also need to carry by law, spare bulbs for the rear light and headlight unless you have LED lights. The law also says you must have reflective helmet stickers when riding in France. It is very unlikely we will be riding in the dark but it would be wise to take some reflective tape with you in case. You DO need to ensure you have a hi-viz vest on the bike

Will all this info be provided?

We provide a very detailed and comprehensive tour guide pack with over 20 pages and a list of all the hotels, routes etc before you leave

Returned to the UK yesterday from what can only be described as the best bike tour I’ve ever been on. This trip is only 5 days but what a magnificent experience through and to the Vosges mountains & summit followed by a lively run on the famous B500 road in Germany. The best roads and scenery but the real pleasure and success of this tour was Chris Seagal as tour guide and the excellent planning and support from his team. Chris is friendly, professional, caring and very funny! He made myself and the rest of the 14 man (1 woman) team relaxed and at ease from the off. A consummate professional ensuring our group of riders with all different levels of riding experience & from different walks of life all felt included and cared for. Great laughs, company, great food (& beer) and great accommodation all made for a trip that will long be remembered. You will be inspired! Congratulations Chris & team a first class job! I’ll be back on another soon! 😉

Had the best biking experience ever last week with Chris and the gang on the Vosges tour. I loved every part of the holiday, from the incredible roads and scenery to the camaraderie within the group. Chris and the team have put together the perfect package for a taster of touring around Europe. I will be a regular customer for along time to come.

Just come back from my first ever tour. Snips took us down to the Vosges and B500. All I can really say is thank you. The whole experience was amazing right from the hotels, Snips our fantastic guide and of course the stunning scenery.
Sadly our run down the B500 was spoilt only by the weather. I guess that means I’ll just have to return and do it again.
Many thanks.

Vosges Mountains Tour Aug 2018.
Really enjoyed the Vosges mountains Guided tour. It was exactly what was said on the tin. Exceptional scenery to look at. Exceptional roads to ride on. Excellent company of like minded people. Our guide Chris had a laid back approach to precedings with a can do attitude when solving clients needs. All of which added to a great experience that I’m looking forward to repeating as soon as possible.

Just back from August 2018 Vosges and B500 tour. I have been touring Europe for about 15 years and during that time have used a variety of guided tour companies and I can thoroughly recommend Chris and his team. On this particular tour we did not get to do the B500 and (although I have done it before) I was slightly disappointed, There was a storm brewing over Baden Baden and Chris wanted to avoid it and I understand his concern for safety of the group. All in all a very nice, short, 5 day tour visiting a mountain range that was new to me

Thanks David
We did ride the B500, just not the last few miles due to the storm and safety reasons.

Vosges and B500 tour Aug 18
I did the Vosges and B500 tour and was impressed with the standard of the organisation and accommodation on the tour. Chris had good local knowledge and tailored each day’s stops to the needs of the group. The corner marker system works well allowing riders to ride at their own pace and we managed to make all our stopping points without loss. On this tour we diverted to miss the B500 to Baden Baden from Triberg due to foul weather. A little disappointing, but good to know that Chris put the safety of the group first rather than press on regardless. I opted to take my chance and share a room, but all rooms were spacious with twin beds so this was never a problem. I would definitely go again.
