THE MOTHER OF ALL BIKING ROADS
If you haven’t heard of Grossglockner Pass, then look it up. It is stunning, mesmerizing and breath-taking. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is the highest surfaced mountain pass road in Austria. It connects Bruck in the state of Salzburg with Heiligenblut in Carinthia via Fuscher Törl and Hochtor Pass at 2,504 m. It is a toll road but it is worth every single penny (£25)
A memory that will last for a long time!
We stay just inside the border this evening in Austria, which, lines us up very nicely for tomorrows scenic day
DAY 4 - SLOVENIA
A DAY FULL OF SCENIC INSPIRATION
Today you head into the Julian Mountains on the Austrian and Slovenian border as well as take the opportunity to ride through Vršič Pass. The Vršič Pass, with an elevation of 1,611 metres, is a high mountain pass across the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. It is the highest pass in Slovenia, as well as the highest in the Eastern Julian Alps. A day truly worth looking forward to!
You’ll also stop briefly to admire Bled Castle on Lake Bled and make time to capture memories and photos of the surrounding beauty, namely the Grintovec and Karawanks Mountains.
This, in addition to some spectacular roads, you’ll be sure to have a breathtaking day.
DAY 5 - CAVES & WATERFALLS
Postojna Cave will be your first visit of the day (availability pending, it will be right next door to the hotel) where you will have the opportunity to visit this amazing attraction, have lunch afterwards before heading off to the lakes.
In the afternoon, you’ll ride to Plitvice Lakes National Park, where you’ll stay the evening after exploring the magnificent waterfalls. It is a long and fun filled day today and a lot is packed in but the views will make it all worthwhile!
DAY 6 - The Adriatic Coast
DAY 7 - Rest Day
Today is as relaxing or as adventurous as you wish, spend the day in the town of Split, a town on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, it is known for its beaches and the fortress like complex at its centre, Diocletian’s Palace, erected by the Roman emperor in the 4th century. Once home to thousands, its sprawling remains include more than 200 buildings. Within its white stone walls and under its courtyards and galleries are shops, bars, cafes, cathedrals, hotels and several houses.
There are many small islands in the bay of Spit which you can also explore. Or head for the stunning seaside port of Omis, a beautiful small town between Makarska and Split
Hvar is a city and port on the island of Hvar, part of Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia. The municipality has a population of 4,251 while the city itself is inhabited by 3,771 people, making it the largest settlement on the island of Hvar.
Šolta is an island in Croatia. It is situated in the Adriatic Sea in the central Dalmatian archipelago, west of the island of Brač, south of Split and east of the Drvenik islands, Drvenik Mali and Drvenik Veli
Or why not take the opportunity to go river rafting, an amazing experience. (let us know if you wish to participate in this activity so we can book in advance) https://raftrek.com/tour/cetina-river-rafting/
DAY 8 - Adriatic Coast Road - D8
When riders talk about Croatia and Slovenia they always mention the Dalmation Coast road and that is exactly what is on the menu today! You’ll head north on a 250 mile journey, a relatively long day with plenty of miles and lots of curvy roads alongside beautiful turquoise waters edges but the best bit is riding alongside the coast. The road is an abundance of twists, turns, straights and moderate hairpins all with a stunning view. You rest for the evening in Koper
DAY 9 - DOLOMITES
From Koper in Slovenia you’ll be heading through Italy and continue through the northern Italian Alps and ride across the Italian Dolomites. Finally crossing back over into Austria, through Innsbruck and back into Germany, resting for the evening on the border with Austria. Germany being economically better priced and it’s beer being unequivocally better flavoured, it’s a warm welcome from your days riding!
DAY 10 & 11 - Heading home
Your last 2 days, you head for Luxembourg then onto Calais before heading to UK. The last couple of evenings are spent reminiscing, talking about the experiences of which there will be many.
