Is this motorcycle tour suitable for inexperienced riders?
Yes, although we would recommend you have at least 12 months riding experience due to some of the tighter bends and hairpins. If you are a novice we do have a tour for that, just search for our “Novice Tour”!
WHAT ARE THE HOTELS LIKE?
The hotels are of good standard and not the usual coach tour style so often seen on other tours. Some hotels may have a spa or swimming pool so bring your bikini!
All hotels are 3* or above and are clean and comfortable. Where a rider is sharing a room with another rider, some hotels may have rooms that are classed as “doubles”, it is a large king or queen size double bed frame with single mattresses and single bedding (this is very typical of German and Austrian hotels and is unavoidable)
I am worried I won’t be able to keep up with the group?
That’s a common concern for most people wanting to go on a tour but you needn’t worry at all. We use a drop-off system, it’s simple and basically works using a team effort. The leader will indicate to the rider behind to wait in a safe place at a junction, so all riders behind can see him/her (marker) then when he/she sees the last rider (tail end charlie) he/she will move off and rejoin the group at the back in front of the last rider. and so it goes on through the group in rotation. It works really well and allows everyone to ride at their own pace without getting lost
Do I need a Sat Nav?
No, but, you must be able to find the hotels each day, just in case you become detached from the group and the tour guide is unable to locate you. This may be due to a breakdown or something. We do advise you have the route on your phone or at least the hotel addresses (we provide these) If you wish, we can supply a printable roadbook if you prefer, if you are not familiar with sat navs
Can I take a pillion?
Of course you can
Do you offer discount for group bookings?
We can, it depends on the number of riders in the group. If you have more than 4 please contact us directly before booking
Will I need a Vignette?
No, the locations we will be visiting in Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and France do not require one
I have heard about Crit’ Air pollution stickers for vehicles, do I need one?
No, these currently only apply to a handful of major cities in France, such as Lyon, Paris, Grenoble…
How much is fuel in France/Germany etc?
It is about the same as UK prices
What speeds do you ride on the motorways?
We stick to the legal limits, usually on the toll motorways this is 130kmph (80mph) and 115kmph (70mph on non toll motorways). We do not speed recklessly on Autobahns. And we respect local villages and towns by adhering to the speed limit. Besides this, France have become very strict on speeding offences this year, they have also spent a lot of money on speed cameras, so be careful
If I get caught speeding what happens?
If you are caught by a mobile patrol you will be fined on the spot and made to pay on average between £50 – 100. If your speed was excessive, your bike will be impounded and you could be arrested. All prosecutions issued in France are now transferred to the UK, so if you lose your license in France it applies in the UK. If you are flashed by a camera, expect to receive a fine in the post from France or a debt collection agency acting on behalf of the French Transportation
In rural areas speed isn’t a big problem, motorways and towns are where they are concentrating their efforts the most, that said, be on the look out. Don’t spoil your fun but if you keep your eyes peeled you should be all good
Do I need to carry a hi-viz vest etc?
Yes, you do not need to carry a breathalyzer anymore but it is recommended. You will also need to carry by law, spare bulbs for the rear light and headlight. The law also says you must have reflective helmet stickers when riding in France. It is very unlikely we will be riding in the dark but it would be wise to take some reflective tape with you in case
Will all this info be provided?
We provide a very detailed and comprehensive tour guide pack with over 20 pages and a list of all the hotels before you leave
